Tropical vibex snails come from marine environments with both mud and sand sea floors. They are not eaters of algae, instead they are pure scavengers. This makes them efficient at cleaning up food before it can cause an ammonia problem.
A spiraled green shell keeps the vibex snail safe when it retreats away. As they only grow to half an inch in length they do not disturb coral or rocks as they move around.
Nassurias Vibex Behaviors
In an aquarium the vibex snail will spend much of it's time at the bottom of the tank and rarely try to navigate the glass. They can make some progress if they try climbing glass but are better at movement on the substrate. Here they will sometimes bury themselves but should be seen to emerge when food becomes available. Their sense of smell is quite acute so stray food is soon set upon in a feeding frenzy of hungy vibex
Why People Choose Vibex Snails
Fish keepers trying to keep their tank clean often mix these scavengers with an algae eating marine snail species. By doing so there will be specialized snails at hand to clean multiple problems.
Their digging behavior is also beneficial in keeping the substrate healthy. Digging moves the sand which promotes good oxygen penetration. The vibex also eat any junk they find on the way to the bottom.
