Mystery snails are the largest freshwater aquarium snail commonly available. The golden variety is prized for it's bright sunflower colored shell. The original mystery was brown and known as an apple snail. This colour and the golden mystery snail are the most common seen amongst the variations of pomacea brigesii. Black mystery snails and are also known. All will breed with one another as they are the same species. Tortoise shell colored shells can sometimes be the result of such pairings.
